SaturdayDiabetes drug may protect against heart disease
WTNH.com - MOREA commonly used diabetes drug may also go a long way in helping protect against heart disease and stroke.
People with diabetes who take the drug pioglitazone to help control their blood sugar get the added benefit of a lower risk of death. The drug, sold under the name Actos, was also found to reduce patients risk of having a serious medical event including heart attack and stroke. Patients who benefited in the study had Type 2 diabetes and were at high risk for these types of medical complications. There was however a greater risk for heart failure - though not deaths from heart failure. |
