ThursdayLipitor Approved for Stroke Prevention
The Food and Drug Administration has approved Pfizer Inc.'s powerhouse statin, Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) for primary prevention of stroke and myocardial infarction in people with type 2 diabetes.
The FDA also approved Lipitor for primary stroke prevention in non-diabetics who have no evidence of heart disease but have other risk factors such as modest elevations in LDL cholesterol, controlled hypertension, smoking or obesity.
